We all need a break from our busy lives, a time for reflection, a time to listen for God's guidance. We are so busy doing all the things we are called upon to do, we don't often take the time to slow down, to sit back and think about the things that are really important, to pray, to listen, to study, to fellowship with United Methodist Women from across the conference, and to spend some quiet time in reflection. We trust that your retreat will be a special time of renewal and spiritual growth for you.

Every year, the Western North Carolina Conference United Methodist Women sponsor two consecutive Spiritual Growth Retreats. The first lasts from Friday afternoon until noon on Saturday. The second lasts from Saturday afternoon until noon on Sunday.  This is an opportunity to get away from our daily routines and to reflect, pray, worship, and sing.

There will be a $10.00 registration fee collected from all persons attending the Spiritual Growth Retreats. Fees will be collected at Harrell Center at time of registration. Please do not send registration fees with your housing reservation forms.

Advance registration is not required to attend the retreats.  However, housing on the Assembly Grounds is by advance reservation only. See link below for downloadable housing reservation request forms (Word and PDF).

Housing in Lake Junaluska owned facilities is assigned based on a rotating priority of our fourteen districts.  We rotate the priority list every year so that every district will be at or near the top every four years.  The back of the housing reservation form has complete information and the priority list of districts for this year.

Housing in Lake facilities fills up very quickly for the first retreat, but there is usually plenty of space available for the second retreat. If your district is near the end of the list in the rotating housing priority, and you would like to have a good chance of getting Lake housing...consider attending the second retreat. You may also check first retreat availability after the initial round of reservations are made by calling the offices at the Lake.

We encourage you if at all possible to stay on the grounds to help support the facilities at Lake Junaluska.  If the Lake facilities are full, there are lots of motels near the Assembly grounds...Visit the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce or the Maggie Valley Area Visitors Bureau for more information on available accommodations.

Retreat Leader

Jean Padgett

Jean Padgett - A Christian speaker and Bible teacher, Jean Padgett uses a fourstory miniature house in presentations to church groups across the Southeast. The house is a teaching tool that demonstrates the concept that our heart is Christ’s home. There is humor as well as poignancy as she describes her years of running from God’s call to the mission field only to discover that she had not missed the call, only the location of the field. David Padgett, her late husband, wrote and recorded the theme song for “The Rooms of Your Life.” Jean grew up in Columbia, SC and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish from the University of South Carolina. She was a high school Spanish teacher for several years and later was a co-founder, teacher, and director of a pre-school program in Chapin, SC, where she now lives. She recently retired from the South Carolina Senate after 28 years of employment in Benefits and Payroll. She is an active member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church in Columbia, SC. After teaching Sunday School for over 27 years, she now leads special events at her church for women’s groups, single adults, senior adults, and Sunday School classes. Jean has two grown daughters and four grandchildren.
