Our conference Annual Meeting is a celebration of United Methodist Women and the total program of mission that we are involved in as we seek to fulfill our PURPOSE. Our celebration includes opportunities for:
Worship, praise, inspiration & singing
Dynamic, challenging speakers
Sharing how we have been in mission in the past year
Sharing ideas for how we can continue to be in mission in the future
Fellowship & fun with other United Methodist Women
Visit with retired & active mission personnel
Looking at program resource materials
Adoption of our conference Pledge to Mission & budget

Lunch with the Missionaries - Join missionaries, retired and otherwise, who live in our area. They will be honored guests for lunch on Saturday at the Terrace and Lambuth Inn Dining Rooms. Enjoy sharing a meal with them and learning how they are still serving God.
Singing at the Cross (Sunday Morning, 8:30-9:30am, At the Cross)
Virginia Robinson - Meet Virginia at the Cross on Sunday morning for singing, a wonderful way to welcome the day and worship through music.
Sunday School - Bible Study (Sunday Morning, 8:30-9:30am, Harrell Center)
Reverend Alec Alvord - Our former WNC Conference Director of Missions and Outreach, and Volunteer Response Ministries, will again lead our very popular Sunday School class. Alec will be sharing from the 2008/2009 Spiritual Growth Mission Study...I Believe in Jesus. Join him Sunday morning in Harrell Auditorium, on the lower level of Harrell Center.
Join your sisters-in-Christ for a spirit filled, informative weekend at beautiful Lake Junaluska.

Registration:
Friday, beginning at 2pm, Harrell Center. Housing reservation forms for Lake hotels and
facilities are available from your district president, and
here on the conference web site.
There will be a registration fee of $10.00 collected from all persons attending Annual Meeting. Fees are as follows and will be collected at Harrell Center at time of registration.
Advance registration is not required to attend Annual Meeting. However, housing on the Assembly Grounds is by advance reservation only. See link below for downloadable housing reservation request forms (Word and PDF).
Hotel Check-In at Lake Junaluska hotels: Friday, beginning at 3pm.
Hospitality & Refreshments: Friday, 2-5pm, Susan Todd Lounge, Harrell Center.
Program Resources Room: Beginning Friday at 2pm, and open various other times through Saturday afternoon, downstairs in Harrell Center.
Friday Evening: 6:45pm Gathering Praise, 7pm, Opening Worship, Guest Speaker
Friday Late Night: Immediately following the evening session, special activities are being planned for young women, and the young at heart...karaoke, and more! Join in the fun in the Harrell Center Auditorium downstairs in Harrell Center until 11:00pm.
Saturday Morning: 8:30am, Business session, “Funny Business” presentation of reports, procession of Missionaries and special guests, Mission Speaker, the Conference Love Offering, and the Pledge Service.

Saturday Afternoon: Walk for Mission (immediately following the Public Education Emphasis) - Walk for Mission Registration/Sponsor Form [PDF] - Great News! You may start NOW to collect sponsors for the third annual Walk for Mission! This is a wonderful, fun, supportive community activity to give a boost to our Mission Giving 2008! We collected $8,499.90 in our first year 2006 walk, and $6,329.25 in 2007. United Methodist Women are famous for breaking records for Mission Giving! Let’s see if we can do that this year. You are invited to join the team walking around the Lake at Annual Meeting, or you may walk (or not) in your local church or anywhere. Every local unit is encouraged to join the fun!
Saturday Evening: 7pm, Officer recognition and installation, President’s report.
District Parties: Relax & enjoy fellowship with others from your district after the evening program.

Sunday Worship Service: 10am, Communion, Memorial Service, Dedication of Gift to Mission cards, and message by guest speaker
Individual Prayer Time: Chapel next to Stuart Auditorium, open all weekend.

Lynn Sloan Barnes - Deaconess - Lynn is a 1975 graduate of Methodist College and a retired Spanish teacher. She was commissioned a Deaconess in The United Methodist Church in April of 2005 and currently serves as Executive Director of Tri-County Health Resource Center (HRC) in Elkin, a ministry she started which helps provide medications, medical care, and dental treatment for persons lacking health insurance. HRC has just recently opened Grace Clinic which is a free clinic for the community. Lynn is an active member of United Methodist Women and is currently the President of the North Wilkesboro District. Lynn has taught at several conference Schools of Christian Mission. She has also made nine trips to Bolivia on medical mission teams. She is married to Wayne Barnes and they reside in Elkin, North Carolina. |

Reverend Dr. Arnetta Elizabeth Beverly - Director of Connectional Ministries, WNC Conference - Arnetta was born in Greensboro and grew up in Lexington. Upon moving to New York City in 1964, she worked as a bank teller, a licensed funeral director/embalmer, and with the NYC Police Dept. Arnetta returned to N.C. in 1976 and was employed as a deputy sheriff by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Dept. In 1984 she received the A. A. Degree from Davidson County Community College and in 1986 she received the Bachelor of Arts Degree from Shaw University in Raleigh. She received her Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School in 1992 and her Doctor of Ministry Degree from Drew University in 1999. Prior to her current appointment as Director of Connectional Ministries, she served appointments in the Lexington & Northeast districts, as conference Director of Nurturing and Ethnic Ministries, and as the Northeast District Superintendent. Arnetta was the first African American female on the conference staff and the cabinet, and also the first African American female Director of Connectional Ministries in our conference and in the Southeastern Jurisdiction. Arnetta’s hobbies include NASCAR racing, football, reading and swimming. She has two sons and eight grandchildren. She and grandson, Matt, make their home in Charlotte. |

Vickie Sigmon - Church and Community Worker - Vickie is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church who has been serving in our conference since 1985. She has a liberal arts degree from Lenior Rhyne College in NC as well as a degree in criminal justice from Davison Community College in NC. Her ministry has included recruiting and training volunteers for prison ministries, helping educate congregations about restorative justice and promoting principles of restorative justice within the state government. Vickie is currently assigned to Open Arms Community in Winston-Salem. Vickie and her husband, Kevin Hayes, live in the Open Arms neighborhood. “Every day we have the privilege of bearing witness as cultural, racial, and class barriers fall to make way for the building of God’s Kingdom.” |

Charles
and Gail Litaker are residents of Wadesboro, North Carolina, and are
active in First United Methodist Church there. Gail is a music teacher in
the Anson County Schools, where she teaches K-3 music at Wadesboro Primary
School, and was selected as the Anson County Teacher of the Year for
2006-2007. She is also the Associate Director of Music at First UMC, where
she directs the Handbell Choir, Joyful Noise Youth Choir, and “Thursday’s
Child,” a community children’s choir made up of first through sixth graders
from all across Anson County. In addition, she is the Children’s Choir
director at First Baptist Church, Wadesboro. Charles is the Director of
Music and organist at First UMC, Wadesboro. He retired several years ago as
music teacher at Anson Senior High School, after 30+ years of teaching.
They are the parents of three grown children, and grandparents of three
grandchildren in Winston-Salem and California.

The Salisbury District, under the

How to get to Lake Junaluska...
FROM THE EAST: Travel west on I-40 to Exit 27, US-23/US-74. Go 1.5 miles. Bear right on US-19/US-23/US-74 and go 2.5 miles. Continue on ramp at sign reading "US-19 to Maggie/Cherokee/Junaluska Assembly" and go for 0.2 miles. Bear right on US-19 and watch for the signs. Its a snap.
FROM THE WEST: Travel east on US-19 and watch for the signs. Its a snap.
FROM THE SOUTHWEST: Travel northeast on US-23/US-441. Turn right on ramp at sign reading "US-76 East US-23 North to Waynesville/Asheville". Go 20 miles. Exit 102B, sign reads US-276 North to Maggie Valley/Junaluska Assembly". Turn right on US-276, Dellwood Ave and go north 1.4 miles. Turn right on US-19 and watch for the signs. Its a snap.

The PURPOSE of
United Methodist Women
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women
whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through
Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand
concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the
