Our conference Annual Meeting is a celebration of United Methodist Women
and the total program of mission that we are involved in as we seek to fulfill our PURPOSE.

Coming in August 2010 Annual Meeting Program Book (PDF)

Registration: Friday, beginning at 2pm, Harrell Center. Housing reservation forms for Lake hotels and facilities are available from your district president, and here on the conference web site.
There will be a registration fee of $10.00 collected from all persons attending Annual Meeting. The registration fee will be collected at Harrell Center at the time of registration.

Advance registration is not required to attend Annual Meeting. However, housing on the Assembly Grounds is by advance reservation only. See link below for downloadable housing reservation request forms (Word and PDF).
Hotel Check-In for Lake Junaluska hotels: Friday, beginning at 3pm.
Program Resources Room: Beginning Friday at 2pm, and open various other times through Saturday afternoon, downstairs in Harrell Center.
Friday Evening: Gathering Praise, Opening Worship, Speaker: elmira Nazombe
Saturday Morning: Business session, “Funny Business” presentation of reports, procession of Missionaries and special guests, Mission Speaker: Sandi McGarrah, the Conference Love Offering, and the Pledge Service.
Lunch with retired and active mission personnel - Join mission personnel who live in our area as they are our honored guests for lunch on Saturday at the Terrace and Lambuth Inn dining rooms. Enjoy sharing a meal with them and learning how they are still serving God!

Dr. elmira Nazombe, Executive Secretary of Racial Justice for the Womens Division. elmira has held this position for six years. She is the author of the Mission Study: Globalization: Its Impact on Peoples Lives. She also has been involved with the Church World Service and Bread for the World. She worked and lived in east and southern Africa for 10 years. She recently completed her Doctor of Education Degree on Women's Leadership for Social Transformation. Sandi McGarrah - Sandi is a Diaconal Minister and Minister of Christian Education. For the past 20 years she has worked for the YMCA and UMC as a traveling naturalist and environmental educator with a focus on God’s creation and is best known as ‘The Nature Lady’. She has written curricula for the UM Publishing House and recently helped write the VBS curriculum “Go: A Passport to Southeast Asia” for the Western North Carolina Conference. She has worked with the Cambodian community of Charlotte for many years and is chair of the Charlotte District ReachOut Committee. In 2005 and 2007 she led women’s Ubuntu journeys to Cambodia for the General Board of Global Ministry, Women’s Division. Last year she joined Bishop Goodpaster and his wife on a two-week exploratory trip to Southeast Asia. Sandi and her husband, Bob, are the parents of three grown children and have three grandsons. Rhonda Smith, B.A , M.A., M. A., EdS. taught music, piano and choir for six years at a Bible college in Florida. Upon moving to NC she taught music for ten years at Caldwell Community College while serving as organist at Waldensian Presbyterian Church, Valdese. Since 2006, she has served as the Director of Music/Organist at FUMC, Hickory, NC. She is also a candidate for deacon. She maintains a private piano studio and is an adjunct instructor of Music Appreciation at Isothermal Community College. Rhonda was born in a Methodist preachers family. When she has time, she reads detective books, watches detective movies, cooks for any amount of people who show up (homemade biscuits are her specialty,) and tends her rose and herb garden. She lives in Hudson, NC with her husband, who is a doctoral candidate in the Reich School of Education at Appalachian State University. They have four grown children and a grandbaby, a 7 month old wunderkind. Renee Shatley - Renee holds a Bachelor of Music from Mars Hill College and a Masters of Science in Music Education from The University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She also has National Board Certification. Renee has 21 years of teaching experience and presently teaches High School Choral Music at Draughn High School in Valdese, NC. In addition to teaching, Renee is the choral director for the Chancel Choir at FUMC in Hickory. Silent Voices Signing Dancers - Silent Voices Signing Dancers is a liturgical dance group from Pfeiffer University...proclaiming the Word using sign language as an expression of creative worship. They dance to contemporary/secular songs. They dance at Pfeiffer's special events and also travel to churches to participate in worship services. The Silent Voices were voted Best Event at the University's Masquerade Ball this past Spring. The group started about six years ago with Rissah Lindo as their leader. The group has grown under the leadership of Emily Couch for the past three years.
