Western North Carolina Conference School of Christian Mission
Featured in United Methodist Reporter

New Deaconess from Western North Carolina Conference!
Nancy Garrison was commissioned as a deaconesse on March 11, 2008 at the General Board of Global Ministries meeting in Stamford, Connecticut. Nancy serves as the Executive Director of Brooks-Howell Home, a Women's Division owned retirement home in Asheville, North Carolina.  Read more about the commissioning service on the GBGM website.  Congratulations Nancy!  Our prayers are with you as you continue to serve God...now as a Deaconess!

Kingswood United Methodist Women Bequest to Support Mission Giving!
Kingswood United Methodist Women of the Winston-Salem District recently received a bequest from the estate of Paul Hepler in memory of his wife, Margaret.  A gift to Mission Giving of $11,396.06 was received by Winston-Salem District United Methodist Women on November 12, 2007.  Click here for complete article and photos!

July 29-31, 2005

Western North Carolina Conference to be Represented at Public Education Summit

We are excited that Ann Aldridge (Marion District), Jill Koppenheffer (Winston-Salem District), Tonya Lanier (Lexington District), and Sara Williams (Northeast District) from our conference have been selected to participate in the Women's Division Public Education Summit to be held July 29-31, 2005 at Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville, Tennessee.  The summit is part of the Women's Division ongoing Campaign for Children, Phase III Public School Education, and will focus on advocacy in Public School Education.  United Methodist Women from across the nation who are actively involved in Public Education on all levels will gather to share concerns and best practices, strategize advocacy for working on this issue and explore the possible contributions that can be made by the organization. Congratulations to Ann, Jill, Tonya, and Sara...and thank you for your willingness to participate in this important work!

Joy Prim Selected as Member of Women's Division
Consultative Group for College / University Women!
We are excited that Joy Prim from our conference has been selected as one of fifteen college / university women chosen from across the nation to be on the Consultative Group for College and University Women.  Joy is a member of Yadkinville United Methodist Church in the North Wilkesboro District, where she is a member of the GWAPS (Girls with a Purpose) teen circle of Yadkinville United Methodist Women. Joy has been a regular participant at conference and district UMW events, and serves as Secretary of Program Resources for her local unit.  Joy will be attending Pfeiffer University in the Fall.  Congratulations Joy!

The PURPOSE of United Methodist Women
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
